The Department of English arranges a Seminar on Jibanananda Das

A seminar on the 61st death anniversary of Jibanananda Das was held at the permanent campus of BUBT on November 26, 2015, organized by the Department of English. The students and faculty members of the department paid tributes to the life and works of the renowned Bengali poet of nature, Jibanananda Das, and recited some of his famous poems.

Professor Syed Anwarul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, presented the keynote paper at the event. In his paper, he made a comparative study between the works of Jibanananda Das and John Keats. He pointed out the similarities between the writings of Jibanananda and Keats in their treatment of nature. Dr. Md. Mohoshin Reza, Chairman, Department of English, delivered his lecture on the metaphysical aspects of ‘Banalata Sen’, and Ms. Mushfeka Deeba, Assistant Professor of English, discussed the female characters in the poems of Jibanananda Das.

The students of the department recited some famous poems of Jibanananda like ‘Banalata Sen’, ‘Aat Bochor Age Ekdin’, ‘Timir Hononer Gaan’, ‘Abar Ashibo Phire’ and so on. Ms. Amanee Khandker, former Assistant Professor of English, organized the seminar. The seminar was a great success.
